Strategy #674

Psychological Level Trade

Entry Logic

Enter long on a confirmed bounce from a major psychological level (e.g., 100.00, 1000.00). Price must close above the level on a 1-minute chart. Confirmation requires two consecutive 1-minute candles closing above the level. Trade initiated within 10 points of the psychological level. Market exhibits moderate volatility.

Exit Logic

Target 1: 1.5R. Target 2: 2.5R. Scale out 50% at Target 1. Trail remaining position with a 5-minute ATR stop. Exit entire position if price closes below the entry candle's low. Close trade at 3:50 PM EST. Exit if momentum significantly decreases for 15 minutes.

Stop Loss Structure

Hard stop placed 0.75R below entry. Max dollar loss $500 per trade. Max percent loss 0.5% of account value. Structural stop placed below the swing low preceding entry.

Risk Management Framework

Risk 0.25% of account per trade. Daily loss limit $1,500. Weekly loss limit $4,500. Max drawdown 10% of account. Minimum R:R for entry is 1.5:1.

Position Sizing Model

Size based on 0.25% account risk per trade. Adjust position size by 10% for every 0.5 point increase in 5-minute ATR. Increase size by 50% for A+ setups. Scale in up to 2 times on confirmed retest of the level.

Trade Filtering

Trade only highly liquid instruments (ES, NQ, CL, GC, SPY, QQQ). Avoid trading during major news announcements (CPI, FOMC). Avoid choppy market conditions (ATR below 1.5 for ES). Only trade during trending or ranging market regimes.

Context Framework

Trend must align with trade direction on 15-minute chart. Price should be above VWAP for long trades. Price should be above 20-period moving average. Entry occurs within the lower 30% of the daily range for long trades. Higher timeframe (60-minute) must show support at or near the psychological level.

Trade Management Rules

Move stop to breakeven after 1R profit. Scale out 50% at 1.5R. Do not add to winning positions. Manage fast moves with aggressive trailing stops. Manage slow moves with time-based exits.

Time Rules

Optimal trading window: 9:30 AM EST - 11:00 AM EST and 2:00 PM EST - 3:30 PM EST. Avoid trading 12:00 PM EST - 1:00 PM EST. No trades before 9:30 AM EST.

Setup Classification

A+: Strong bounce from major psychological level, high volume confirmation, higher timeframe alignment. A: Clear bounce, moderate volume, 15-minute trend alignment. B: Weak bounce, low volume, no higher timeframe confirmation. C: Counter-trend entry, high risk.

Market Selection Criteria

Trade ES, NQ, CL, GC, SPY, QQQ. Minimum daily volume 500,000 contracts for futures. Minimum daily volume 50,000,000 shares for equities. ATR must be above 0.5% of instrument price.

Statistical Edge Metrics

Target win rate: 55%. Target average win: 2.0R. Target average loss: 0.75R. Target profit factor: 1.5. Expectancy: 0.5.

Failure Conditions

Price breaks through the psychological level with high volume. No confirmation after initial touch. Market enters extreme volatility. Higher timeframe trend opposes the trade.

Psychological Rules

Maintain discipline. Stick to the plan. Do not chase trades. Accept losses quickly.

Advanced Components

Use volume profile to confirm level strength. Look for correlation with other instruments (e.g., ES with NQ). Ensure 5-minute and 15-minute charts align for entry.

Location

Strongest at major round numbers (e.g., 100.00, 500.00, 1000.00). Weakest at minor psychological levels (e.g., 10.00, 20.00).
